I was backpacking around the Balkans for 2.5 weeks, from May 17th - June 3rd, 2018. I did a circuit from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia. Shot everything on a Fujica STX-1N with Kodak 200 and Kodak 400 Gold film, and a Sears 35rf rangefinder on Ilford 400 XP film. Everything was developed at Downtown Camera Toronto and slightly touched up on Adobe Lightroom. You can check out my photos here.
I created a photobook called "I was on the hunt for ćevapi" that includes most of my shots from the trip to explain my reasoning behind going to Eastern Europe.
I also did a lot of traveling BJJ - tried to drop into a gym for every country I visited. I met a lot of great people and learned that people really enjoyed no-gi and leg locks over there. And only submissions dictated a real win in competitions.
Welcome to my first attempts at doing more with my travel documentation. This is ‘Reflections from Liminal Space’, with some of my favourite photos from my journey in 2017 paired with short diary entries. I created this e-book (and a hardcover version too) for the sake of learning more about publishing, Adobe InDesign, colour spaces and storytelling. Here’s to future books!
